2023 Domaine Ines Lauverjat Sancerre

Ines Lauverjat founded her own domaine in 2017 when she was just 23 years old. 

After studying business in London, Ines decided to nurture a newfound interest in winemaking and studied viticulture in Burgundy. 

In 2017 Ines purchased her first piece of land, a tiny slice of vineyard in Sancerre.

‘Les Rosignols’ is at 300 Meters of elevation and planted on clay limestone soil in the hamlet of Menetou-Ratel:  

At the time, this vineyard had been in disrepair for many years however Ines has made it her passion project to lovingly rehab and re-plant--and this precious little terroir is finally beginning to unveil its full potential.

Although the domaine is fresh out of the box, Ines’ family has been making wine in and around the village of Sancerre for generations and I have to imagine Ines didn’t mind having a little help from her dad who is somewhat of a Sancerre icon in his own right. 

The wine on offer today is Ines' flagship Sancerre, which is cold fermented in stainless steel and aged on its lees for 7 months--a process that both preserves the purity of the vineyard and offers the wine a valuable contribution of texture. 

Having tasted the wine—it’s obvious that Ines and ‘Les Rosignol’ are a compelling combination of winemaker & vineyard. 

This is textbook Sancerre in every sense—plush texture, freshness, and a detailed mineral gait. 

Ines is farming sustainably with great care and incorporating organic vineyard treatments when necessary.

This is the real deal, and I'm left with a sneaking suspicion that the best is yet to come.

My Note Reads: Pristine, ravishing and accompanied by all of the hallmarks of the appellation: fresh lemons, crisp green apple, wild flowers, peach skin, and a dusting of crushed stone shimmering with flint. On the palate, it is supported by bright acid although its edges are rounded and inviting and you know what that means: absolutely peak drinkability for any occasion. Equally equipped as an elegant house gift, as it is to accompany you on the pool deck, or to pour generously along side summer salads, oysters on the half shell, or Langoustines. 12.5%
