"A Barbera that checks all the boxes, the Berruti Barbera d'Asti carries with it the structure and pedigree that has become the reputation of this appellation. This wine is farmed by the Geovine family on several hillside vineyards around Asti. The Geovine's take a holistic approach, farming as naturally as possible and practice organic farming in the vineyards although they are not certified. The resulting wine carries with it all my favorite hallmarks of Barbera: layer upon layer of black cherries, grape soda pop, crunchy crushed leaves, and whispers of cola, balsamic, and truffle. The structure is firm and although wide open now, would only garner even more complexity with short to intermediate cellaring. Pair it with roasted game, lasagna, Bolognese, or even eggplant parm."
