"The Melville Santa Rita Hills Pinot is wide open and stunning. On the nose; bing cherries, cranberries, crushed stone and black tea--uncomplicated but really very pretty and pure. On the palate: a fine silky coating of tannin is accompanied by layer upon layer of cherries, damp earth, river rocks, and crushed leaves. The finish here is lingering and pleasant. What pleasurable Pinot Noir just to drink now. I can only imagine pairing it up with a nice cut of salmon, herb-roasted chicken, or--not to be overlooked as a great lunch wine--a simple ham and cheese sandwich."
