"Bojan Kobal is making some of the most soulful wines in Slovenia. Located in an appellation called Haloze which is distinguished by picturesque rolling hillsides and terraced vineyards surrounded by dense forests--winemaking in this area dates back to at-least Roman times and possibly considerably earlier. As a side hustle, Bojan runs a little wine bar in Ptuj which also serves as a great venue to share his wines. This is the Blaufrankisch--a grape best known for its Austrian examples but that also makes compelling examples in Hungary, Germany, Croatia, and Slovenia. This bottling is a really good example--creamy black fruit is accompanied by rustic, almost rugged tannin that rounds off for a pleasant, thirst-quenching finish. 750 cases produced."
