Dear Readers--

St. Patrick's Day: 5 Wine Specials

Okay so we’re doing something a little different this week.

Instead of a single wine offer—I’ve got 5 killer wines.

There are no 6-bottle or 12-bottle quantity discounts—instead, quite simply, all 5 wines are reduced to the sharpest possible price, the solid case price—regardless of how many bottles you buy.

We’ve never done this before. So here goes nothing.

Happy shopping:

#1: Von Winning Riesling Sekt Extra Brut
These wines are the result of an ingenous collaboration between Stephan Attman and Andreas Hütwohl.
Stephan makes the wine. And Andreas handles the business side.

These high elevation sandstone subsoils which instill this bubbly with a fine, precise minerality and fine grain stoniness while warm sunny days nurture delightful citrus high tones.
Organic farming only serves to enhance the transmission of terroir from vineyard to bottle—and Von Winning wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Notes Read: Von Winning Brut is farmed on an especially chalky section of vineyard in the Deidesheim which surely contributes to the wine's Champagne-esque taste and texture. Apples, brioche, and mineral talc amalgamate beneath layer upon layer of delicate pearl. Serious quality to price ratio. Pair it with tempura, fried chicken, or seafood boil.

#2: 2019 Railsback Freres Vermentinu Soeur Cuvee Speciale Santa Ynez Valley
For the Railsback Freres project, Eric and Lyle take direct inspiration from the wines of Southern France and Corsica.

This wine is made from the Vermentino grape—which in Corsica is referred to by the local moniker “Vermentinu”
While there are less than 89 acres of Vermentino in California—the boys have managed to source expressive parcels from two unique vineyard sites in Santa Ynez.

My Notes Read: The 2019 Vermentinu from the Railsback bros might their best effort yet--this is fresh, layered, and pure: offering up an encticing spectrum of aromas including fresh cream, lemon skin, white peach, key lime, fresh herbs, linen, sea spray, and crushed seashells. On the palate, this is just ever so unctious and satisfying, carrying with it just a little extra extract and weight which only makes it more refreshing. The finish is long and layered and nostalgic of its Corsican bretheren. This is new California. 12.7%

#3 2021 Cameron Ramato Pinot Gris
Is it a pink wine or an orange wine? It’s the best of both worlds. As devout followers know by now, these wines are really important to me. Not only do I also love to share them and the story behind them, but Cameron is probably the single producer of wine that I drink most often at home. John Paul is the mastermind behind Cameron and it’s his dedication to quality and farming that make the wines what they are.

My Notes Read: JP's current Ramato might be his best yet--this is noble pink wine produced from Pinot Gris from Abbey Ridge. This kinda drinks like lemonade laced with fresh peach juice, wild strawberries, and fresh herbs with a mild tannic cling. This is not going to last long in my house--and it won't last long @ Ancona's. Organic.

#4 Chateau Auney l'Hermitage Graves Bordeaux Blanc
65% Semillon, 20% Muscadelle, 15% Sauvignon
Chateau Auney l'Hermitage is produced from 20 acres across 10 small domaines.  Many of these vineyard parcels are scattered through the surrounding woodlands, planted over the years between gaps in the trees.

Since these forest parcels offer little or no access to heavy equipment, farming and harvesting is done by hand. Sylvie and Christian Auney are committed to sustainability. The Graves Blanc is sourced from a 2.5 hectare plot of 20+ year-old vines.

Our Store Notes Read: The nose on this Graves Blanc is complex and herbaceous, but the palate takes it even a step further. Just-ripe citrus, white peach, wildflowers and straw finish long with just a hint of vegetal bitterness. Barrel aging contributes a round, juicy texture that seems almost at odds with the otherwise bright freshness. This wine has a lot to say!

#5 Bergstrom Gargantua Pantagruel Syrah
As it turns out, these guys love great Syrah. So much so that they’ve built a corner of the winery to focus exclusively on the variety. And it’s not just Oregon. These guys are vinifying compelling and complex renditions of the variety across three states: Oregon, Washington, California.

Not only is Pantagruel a blend of all three appellations—but it is a strict selection of the most expressive barrels from each. And what you get is the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the crème de la crème of American Syrah.

My Note Reads: This is impeccable. It leads with a classical syrah nose, driven by an amalgamation of the freshly cracked black peppercorn, black olive tapenade, wood smoke, iron, smoked meat, and crushed stone--all the nostalgic trappings of its old guard counterparts from across the pond. On the palate, even more of all these things…there is some weight here but it’s not overbearing nor overblown with alcohol but cool, crisp, and spectacularly textured. Besides the aromas, the texture makes this wine. And one can’t help but wonder if it's the unique outcome from this wine’s triple origin blend. On the back end this is long, layered, and ultimately leaves you thirsty for more. Here is a wine that tests the boundaries of what is possible. 13.2%

And here’s the best part: 4 of these 5 wines are available to taste in the Branchville tasting machine.

Please feel free to stop by and come taste!

Cheers my friends.
