Good Day Friends--

2020 Pierre-Vincent Girardin Éclat de Calcaire Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay (The Ancona's 1933 Label)

For those of you that are familiar with these wines, I'm pleased to report that nothing has changed here.

Pierre is killing it.

When I first tasted Pierre Vincent's wine, I have to admit--I though the price was too good to be true. (And I still feel that way, frankly)

Point blank--without hesitation--this is simply, utterly, exceptional White Burgundy.

In my career I can vividly recall maybe just half dozen seriously over-performing Bourgogne Blancs. And on that short list, it’s hard to think of one I’d put up against Girardin. This caliber, at this cost of entry—you just don’t see that any more.

So who is this kid?

Pierre is maybe 24 years old.

And 2017 was his first vintage.

Here is Pierre on his first trip to the US, saying what's up in Wilton Center in 2019.

(A week later his wine was being poured at Blue Hill Farm)

Pierre isn't new to the game—his family has 13 generations of experience growing and making wine in Burgundy.

From a young age, Pierre worked beside his father, Vincent Girardin in the cellar.

Although Pierre’s pop sold the estate several years ago, he made a point to save the very finest parcels of vineyard for his son to take over-- we’re talking 4.5 hectares of the crème de la crème.

The change of the guard that came to fruition in 2017.

And the kid hit a homerun.

But the Bourgogne Blanc in particular, at this price, is just silly.

This year, in order to secure an adequate allocation, we asked Pierre to label 50 cases of his signature Bourgogne Blanc with the Ancona's 1933 logo stamped on the front label.

Full transparency--this is not custom winemaking--just the classic tried and true PVG Bourgogne Blanc. And we wouldn't want it any other way.

80% Meursault. 20% Volnay.

35+ year old vines.

Indigenous yeast.

Élevage in 60% 456L barrels (15% new) and 30% in tank.

Practicing Organic.

Codey Foster, Wine Director

My Notes Read: This simply outstanding White Burgundy, can easily mistaken for top-notch Meursault: bound with complex flavors of smokey mineral and flint embedded in a complex fabric of tree fruit, fresh herbs, spice, and a kiss of buttery brioche around the edges. And the price is so silly. These are wines that I'll regularly be bringing home myself, as long as we can keep them in stock. 13.5%

Remember to tuck away a few bottles: And no doubt you'd be well rewarded to hoard some away for a few years. I have to say, some of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had buying/drinking wine are with humble Bourgogne Blanc—cellared for 3-5 years after release with a few years of age this wine has a tendency to seriously sing.
