2021 Chateau Cassini Bordeaux Rouge (750ml)

ORGANIC

This is Arnauld Daudier.

You might recall—I offered you his other wine, the Saint-Emilion this summer. 

Arnauld is a salt of the earth, idiosyncratic, soulful spirit.

He learned at the iconic Chateau Figeac, and in 1999 set out on his own to produce his own unique captures of Bordeaux. 

Surprisingly, his wines take as much influence from the Loire Valley as they do from his prestigious neighbors in St-Emilion. They are full of crunchiness, earthiness, minerality, and finesse. 

Over the past several years it has been incredible to watch these wines evolve and come out of their proverbial shell—with every coming vintage, it seems the wines just get better and 2021 is surely his best vintage yet. 

Arnauld makes two small scale bottlings: “St-Emilion” and “Bordeaux".

The wine on offer today is his “Bordeaux”.

This is bottling is sourced from a single parcel of vines just 3.9 hectares in size. 

And from start to finish, Arnauld is pretty much doing everything as clean, wholesome, and conscientious as he possibly can.

-The wine is fermented only with natural yeasts.

-It’s bottled by gravity, unfined, unfiltered.

-Minimal Sulphur is used.

-Certified Organic. Biodynamic.

-No oak whatsoever. 

Funny enough, there’s not even a single oak barrel in the whole winery. 

None of this is to mention that it’s just mouthwateringly delicious. 

I know it might seem low. 

Here’s Why:

-Inherent value--this is a small operation with very little overhead

-Since Arnaud doesn’t use barrels—the extra cost isn’t baked into the wine

-Ancona’s brings Cassini into the market directly, which means less markup along the way

-Friday offer pricing is the sharpest pricing we will offer all year long. 

So needless to say—this is almost certainly the lowest price in the country.

My Notes Read: Stone, cassis, fresh herbs, and wild berries: all unobscured by the flavors of a new oak barrel. Arnauld might best be described as a genius and a mad man. This guy is bad to the bone and the wines really speak for themselves. Because this is on the crunchier, more delicate side of Bordeaux, it’s well equipped not just for the classic red wine/red meat pairings but has a true affinity for poultry and especially grilled chicken.  12.5%
