Hello all,

Writing these offers is always exciting for me.

To be able to recommend a wine that I personally enjoy and think others will too is something I do on a daily basis.

But when I get to put it into an email and send it out to a few thousand people in one shot -- that’s the good stuff!

With that being said, I choose these wines very carefully. It’s important that there is a great story behind the wine and it’s even more special when there is a person involved.

James Sparks, whose name you might recognize from some of our past Liquid Farm offerings, is probably the most talented winemaker in Santa Barbara right now. Aside from that, he’s also a close friend of the Ancona’s family.

While James has been making tsunami-sized waves with the delicious Chardonnay that he’s been putting out under the Liquid Farm label, he has also quietly been releasing small quantities of his impressive side project wine – Kings Carey.

Just last month, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting up with Mr. Sparks at the Liquid Farm facility in Santa Barbara and tasting through the Kings Carey wines. And believe me when I tell you; we have some special on our hands here.

The 2014 Kings Carey Grenache is a single vineyard bottling from the John Sebastiano Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara.

2014 was James’ first vintage pulling from Sebastiano and as he tells me, the yields were low that year and only 72 cases were produced.

Ancona’s Exclusive Alert! -- you will not find this wine anywhere else in the state!

Upon opening, the 2014 Kings Carey Grenache is almost transparent in the glass and carries with it a much lighter body than Spanish or French styles of Grenache.

On the nose, aromas of dried raspberries and dried cherries are complemented by notes of cinnamon, cocoa and a hint of sweet soppressata.

On the palate, dried fruits are followed by flavors of smoked meat, cracked pepper and even some cherry cola.

This is killer wine that is drinking great now and will be doing so for the next 5 – 10 years.

We’re also including in this offer the 2016 Kings Carey Rosé (also an Ancona's Exclusive).

Another single vineyard bottling, James is sourcing the fruit for his 2016 Rosé from Brick Barn Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The juice sees 24 hours of skin contact before being completely pressed off and is then aged on the lees in neutral barrels.

The end result is a beautifully round rosé with aromas of ripe strawberries, cranberries and creamy cherry parfait.

The palate is balanced and delicious with flavors of watermelon and ripe red fruits, all backed by a finish of crisp limestone minerality.

Grab these bottles while you can, as we do not have much and not much is made.

As always, feel free to email me if you have any questions about the wine.

Cheers!
