Description of Event: |
On Thursday September 19th, join my buddy Adam and I, and I for a sip of Perkins Harter at the back bar in the Branchville Store as we celebrate the debut of Perkins Harter in the state of CT. This is officially this tiny Oregon estate’s CT debut.
720 Branchville Road, Ridgefield CT. 6:00PM-7:00PM Come as you are for this very casual mix-and-mingle cocktail-style get together. In other words—this is not a formal sit-down seminar. Swing by when you can. Grab a stem. Taste some wines. Talk Perkins Harter and hear about my recent visit with Shelby and Peter at their high Eola-Amity hills homestead perch.
Please Note: We have just two wines to share but they're bangers! 2022 Perkins Harter Bracken Pinot Noir 2022 Perkins Sojeau Pinot Noir
The Story: On Saturday June 22 I visited Shelby and Peter at their estate vineyard, “Bracken”, high in the Eola-Amity Hills. Willamette Valley. Oregon. Holy smokes. What a place to be.
The vineyard itself sits squarely point blank with the Van Duzer gap and around 4:00 each afternoon, the cool wind starts to funnel in off the Pacific which is totally key. There is something serendipitous about this match: Shelby/Peter and Bracken Vineyard. Though, it’s definitely more than just a happy accident. It is inspiring and humbling to hear how many years this duo spent painstaking scouring the Willamette Valley for the perfect piece of land.
Fast forward 6 years and there is wine in the bottle and it’s glorious.
I’m blown away by the sheer mount of grunt work, digging, planting, boulder moving, and ground hog fighting (not to mention ground squirrels) that Shelby and Peter have had to contend with to establish this site—though I have little doubt that the vineyard they have built (and are still building) will go down in history as one of Oregon’s most historic site. All in, total production hovers around 1000 cases a year. Though Perkins Harter is still under the radar—it won’t be a secret for long. $10/ticket 20 tickets available--first come, first served.
